element of the week: Gallium

I chose this one because i like it's name. it sounds like gallant. also, it sounds like gallum, from lord of the rings, a character who rather freaked me out.
General properties
Name, symbol, number gallium, Ga, 31
Element category post-transition metal
Group, period, block 13, 4, d
Standard atomic weight 69.723(1)g·mol−1
Electron configuration [Ar] 3d10 4s2 4p1
Electrons per shell 2, 8, 18, 3 (Image)
some little facts:
-Elemental gallium is not found in nature, but it is easily obtained by smelting, extractive metallurgy
-Gallium also attacks most other metals by diffusing into their metal lattice, makes other metals brittle
-As it liquefies slightly above room temperature, it will melt in the hand

  1. I like the picture of Gallium that you added to your post...and your comparison to Gallum. Both of those things will help me to remember this element.
